Girl Dials Dad and Then Checks Out
This teenage girl called her father on his cell phone while he was at work and told him that she was putting a noose around her neck and hanging herself; then she hung up. He was already part way home, so he continued driving there while calling the police to alert them, as well. Dad arrived before the police did and found that she'd tied a scarf around her neck and knelt down beside her bunk bed. He immediately cut the noose in hopes of saving her. He stated that he thought she might still be alive, but saw when he removed the scarf that she had both vomited in her mouth and voided herself; wasn't breathing. The ambulance arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed that she had no vital signs. She left no suicide note and was a gifted vocal performer who got good grades in school and was looking forward to college. Neither her father nor any of her friends expressed any idea about why she may have killed herself. |

I suppose she grew tired of asking for a carpeted room.

Re: Girl Dials Dad and Then Checks Out
That could very well be. She was punishing her dad. If so, that will be something he will carry with him for the rest of his life. |

Re: Girl Dials Dad and Then Checks Out
It's possible. But we've seen cases here of young people punishing their parents by killing themselves under such provocation as being grounded for skipping school, having their cell phones taken away, and even because their parents wouldn't buy them something they wanted. Granted, most of those weird cases are in Asia and this was in Mexico, but priorities often tend to be very skewed in the heads of hormonal adolescents. Shit that really means nothing can affect them with great gravity. Breakups, teasing, poor self-image, family drama...I've seen all of these cited as reasons in suicide notes. Not saying any of that is the case here, but if there was abuse it wasn't mentioned by her father or family in the report and none of her friends addressed it on Facebook. Her closest friends seemed completely shocked and indicated that the action was totally unexpected. Everyone has secrets, sometimes dark ones. But that isn't necessarily the situation in this case. Could be, though. |

Re: Girl Dials Dad and Then Checks Out
maybe, but maybe she was just saying goodbye to him none of us know what was said, and maybe she had confided about suicidal thoughts to her father previously and was just saying her last goodbyes obviously the original post suggest that the father had no idea of her motives, but the average parent would feel very guilty if they felt they did not act appropriately to their child's suicide threats and might not volunteer that information at such a tragic time as has been suggested by vedderman, there are many "triggers" for people taking their own life and some do seem trivial to most people. (for want of a better description) some people do see life like an amusement park ride - it is fun, but when they are tired of it, they are happy to just get off the ride on their own terms. it isn't always wise to look too far into a suicide, because the average person cannot understand, simply because they generally "do not" ever want to get off the ride :) |
