Re: Girl Dials Dad and Then Checks Out
the other issue with looking too far into suicides is that people left behind think that they could have done something to prevent it while this thought process is normal, it is so far off the mark in most cases. if someone is willing to take their own life, then in all but a few cases, no other person can do anything about it |

Question remains that where was the mom? And maybe you are over thinking it... Would you do us a favor and part with your left testicle yourself or shall we arrange for some alternative |

Re: Girl Dials Dad and Then Checks Out
Teens are notoriously impulsive and irrational I know. It was just the phoning the dad as she did it part that seemed unusual to me. Suicidal teens tend not to warn their parents like that. For him to say he had no idea why just seems odd. Suicide attempts are cries for help. They are more open. Real suicide is hidden. It's like a mix of the two. Did she mean to do it? Why her dad and not her mum? My guess is she phoned him on his way home for a reason - either to save her or to punish him, and for him to have no idea at all? It's odd. |

Re: Girl Dials Dad and Then Checks Out
Remember also that these are Rojas news reports here. They're a step above tabloid journalism, but accurate fact-finding tends to be a bit secondary to the idea of getting the photos and human tragedy circulating. They rarely outright lie, but a lot of things get reported without much due diligence or substantiation. Add to that that Spanish is not my native language and much of the information I get from Facebook groups local to the area is somewhat colloquial. I may lose something in translation. To wit, the literal translation of what her phone call was reported to say was "Dad, I'm sorry, I have a pain in my neck." I chose to interpret that to mean that she told him she was about to hang herself. That may have been inaccurate. Anyway, it's good to discuss these cases. Part of the interest and fun of a board like this. Just don't get to hung up on some of the specific verbiage of foreign news stories. Between the slipshod reporting of the Rojas journalists and my own desire to make the article readable and interesting, it never hurts to wash it down with a grain of salt or two. I do the best I can and, quite frankly, most other 'shock' sites don't even bother to include news stories at all. Only pictures and (as often as not) spurious data that the poster who lifted the image from DR makes up to suit himself. But I'm not perfect so remember the margin for error when getting too focused on dialogue lines. |
