Re: The Five Stages Of Embalming

At work, I used to put the finished-with dissected organs (including brain) in a bin bag inside the chest & abdominal cavity - standard practice as it prevents 'fluid' seepage and mess. The empty skull was stuffed with cotton wool Mental eh?
I know a lot of living folk who's skulls are stuffed with cotton wool

Re: The Five Stages Of Embalming

I would like to see an actual video, in detail, showing and explaining arterial embalming from the start to finish. That is something I have never seen and am quite interested in the process.

Re: The Five Stages Of Embalming

they also use what is called embalmers powder for organs, it's basically what you do to chicken before you fry is, the powder absorbs moisture and prevents decomp and then they're placed back into the body cavity, usually not in the same position, and usually in bags.....

Re: The Five Stages Of Embalming

Great post, I agree. But I can't help wondering why the hell they do it all. From dust to dust or ashes to ashes you know. We are not meant to last longer than life itself. But maybe it is just because I live in a "closed-casket-culture".
It is done so the family and friends can say goodbye and pay their final respects. I grew up living in a funeral home and this post by Kelley is pretty much right on target. I asked my dad why people need to be "viewed", and he said it gives the family closure and starts the healing process. When loved ones view their dead relative, some are quiet and composed while others wail and scream. We lived on the 2nd floor in a supposedly "soundproofed" home and I remember hearing those screams and feeling bad for them. I remember one case in which a woman in her 60`s died and in her will, she stated that if her dog "Lilly" was still alive upon her death, she wanted the dog put to sleep and with her in the casket. My dad had to honor her wish but I don`t remember if the dog was embalmed or not, I was too young.
