Many of them are vegetarians as well; what you see in the photos has nothing to do with cannibalism, the food that they're cooking is normal vegetarian lunch and has no connection to the deceased body or the dissected flesh. It's not sky burial: it's "Lang Pa Cha", a religious tradition practiced in Thailand when cemeteries run out of space. Volunteers dig up the bodies of the deceased unclaimed by any relative and cremate them in accordance with the Buddhist religious rites. Since during this "Lang Pa Cha" 64 unclaimed bodies were found, to cremate the whole body would take a long time, so only the bones were cremated, that's the reason for the dissection of the flesh from the bodies. Also, the volunteers allowed to participate in this religious ritual must be strictly on vegetarian diet in order to clean their mind both before and after the ritual. So no sky burial, no cannibalism, they're just cleaning some room in the cemetery. |
