The worst smell I ever encountered was a job we had in Hacienda Hieghts, its just east of Los Angeles, Ca. Anyway it was a decamp and a trash out. This crazy former evangelist lived alone and was a pack rat like you wouldn't believe. He had his 4 bedroom house completely filled with garbage, everything from envelopes with cash still in them, guns (some loaded), to tao bell wrappers. It was floor to ceiling with stacks of crap. It took 6 40ft roll away containers to remove everything. Well this dude died and decomposed in his bedroom area and when he was finally discovered most of this large man was now part of the mattress and trash that had surrounded him. That smelled bad but nothing I hadn't encountered before. What was the absolute worst smell I ever came across was two home depot 5 gallon buckets that he was using to shit and piss in. He had no running water for years according to the neighbors. Anyway these buckets of shit and piss had two floating dead rats in them. They must have slipped in and drowned in the shit and piss. When I went to move the first bucket the liquid moved and the smell that came out of there was so foul and so thick, I mean you could practically feel it in your mouth and on your tongue. I had to set that shit down right there and go out and get a mask before I attempted to move it again. |

It was actually a very interesting job. It was disgusting quite often but the stillness of a crime scene, or even natural death after everyones gone, that space is frozen in time. We cleaned up the last traces of someone's life and I had a profound respect for that. I hope I'm not sounding like a nut job.

I think its kind of neat to look at, not gross at all, can't imagine the smell though, smelly things gross me out.
