This student had an argument with her parents regarding schoolwork and free time. Her grades had been falling and she was apparently spending too much time on TikTok and riding motorcycles with her friends. So they took her phone away in an effort to improve her summer school academics.

Unfortunately, she was already suffering from depression (according to her family) and took the disciplining quite hard. When she failed to appear at the breakfast table, her 20 year old brother went up to her room to wake her and was shocked to find her suspended in a partial-suspension hanging between her window and her bed. He went to the shed to get a machete and cut her down and moved her to the bed, but it was apparent that she was deceased.

Police and forensics arrived to investigate the scene. The family was interviewed and the bedroom and body were thoroughly examined.

It was determined that she had hanged herself sometime during the night, but much closer to morning, probably less than two hours. The report indicated that livor mortis was very localized to the part of her back that was pressed up against the wall between the elastic waistband of her shorts and the elastic of her bra, with virtually none in her extremities.

She was wearing gym shorts and a tshirt with a bra underneath, which was not what she was wearing the night before, so it was presumed that she had dressed for the upcoming day and then tied a white tshirt to the window as a noose.

The report also indicated that her underpants and the gym shorts were heavily soaked with urine and still noticeably damp, so that further verified the theory that she had not hanged herself the night before, as they would have long-since dried if she'd soiled them 8 hours earlier while asphyxiating.

It was also noted that her tongue was swollen and protruding slightly and that petechiae (burst blood vessels) were found in her eyes. There was a 10cm ligature mark ending just below her left earlobe.

Between the family interviews and the physical findings at the scene, both the police and forensics were satisfied that it was a suicidal hanging and the case was closed without a full autopsy.

Photos are hit-or-miss. Actually a remarkable photo array for Cambodia these days, though none are perfect. Some are b&w, some are watermarked, and some are blurred/occluded. But there are enough of them that I felt it was worth posting, even with the imperfections.

Yeah, many of the ones I see from Cambodia are living in bamboo huts or tin shacks. I don't know what all was going on with this one (aside from what the articles and reports indicated), but she did some to be far more financially comfortable than many I have researched from there.

I don't see 'wealth' or any kind of sign that the family could be well off at all in these pictures.

Compared to a significant number of Cambodian families, they have some marked signs of affluence.

The young woman has a bed. With a wooden frame. And sheets. Pillows. Stuffed animals. Their windows are shuttered and have glass. They even have bars for security. She had a wide array of clothing in the antemortems, including jewelry. her skin is healthy and she looks well-nourished.

Seriously, many of the suicide and murder cases I have researched from Cambodia involve people who do not own shoes, sleep on rickety cots, have no doors on their 4-walled bamboo huts, and wear homemade clothes that could be from the 1920s.

Comparatively, here's another image of this girl. In a spacious fenced back yard. With yard furniture.

Mind you, being somewhat privileged in Cambodia is still likely barely the poverty line in the West. And even with all of those things, depression is a dangerous force. Problems are problems, however much money your parents have.

But hers had more than most.

As Ved mentioned above, she had an argument with her parents regarding schoolwork and free time. Depression from both? LoL, she's lucky she had a phone (playing tiktok) and motorcycle also a family that could support her financially.

Anyway, it's just my assumption
