Embalmers Work Revealed Decades Later (part 2)

As a few requested, I have posted a few more pictures like the ones I initially posted in the thread "Proof of embalmers' good work decades later".

These few pictures are of exhumations that revealed what might be considered more typically found years after the fact, as opposed to the more exceptional cases I had shown in the previous post.

These are two separate cases. The first was exhumed in order to creamate the body and bury those remains with the rest of the family in another state. The body is of a young man who was killed in an auto wreck Dec. 31st, 1962, exhumed in 2012 or so.
Basically skeletonized aside from small amounts of adherent dry tissue though the vault was dry.

The second case is the exhumation of a young woman from the mid-west who was brutally murdered back in the 1940s; she was found some days after she went missing with a gunshot wound to the head and her killer was never found.

Decomposition was already considerable by the time she was found as it was summer. The unembalmed body was in a rubber body bag, within a lead-sheathed wooden casket and sealed concrete vault, which undoubtedly helped preserve it to such a good degree after about 60 years. The vault was completely dry.

The woman's skull had been autopsied back then (and as was standard practice at the time, the skull was de-fleshed so bullet trajectory could be ascertained). The rest of the body was not opened until she was exhumed; internal organs were still very much intact.

Re: Embalmers Work Revealed Decades Later (part 2)

That last picture you're referring to is actually the woman's rear end. If you look closely, you can see newspaper on the bottom of the body bag, which she was then laid on. In other pictures much of that newsprint is still very much readable, though soiled. The flesh on the back side was still pink/tan as opposed to the rest of the body which had turned to a blackish-brown color due to decomposition.

Nails were also found under her body within the body bag, apparently put there by whomever prepared her for burial (and which by the way the authorities suspect might have had a hand in either her murder or the ensuing cover-up back then).

Re: Embalmers Work Revealed Decades Later (part 2)

The authorities have a pretty good idea who the killer is, but unfortunately that man is now deceased and even if he was still alive, proving it would be difficult or impossible despite the evidence collected from the exhumed body (the woman's boyfriend was also killed, his body found in a different area of the field---his body had been set on fire after also being shot). A lot of the evidence collected back then went missing, documents are lost (some believed intentionally), most of those involved are now dead as well. Cases that "cold" are often unlikely to be truly solved.

The man who is suspected as being the killer was in the rural county's sheriff's office in the 1940s, perhaps a deputy, and there was a pretty sophisticated cover up after the killings. Since nobody was ever formally charged, those men have not been identified personally.

I hope they figure out who killed her. Great set!
