Magnificent and intelligent creatures with humanlike feelings.

I'm with your thinking, they mourn they're dead like us. The guy almost certainly beat or mistreated that animal once too much. He got his just reward. Thing is they probably shot the elephant as a so called rogue. Fuckin' shame.
