Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, 60, Senior Constable Kevin King, 50, Constable Glen Humphris, 32, and Constable Joshua Prestney, 28, were killed on April 22, 2020, when a refrigerated semi-trailer struck them on the Eastern Freeway at Kew East in Melbourne.

The officers were standing in the emergency lane beside a stopped Porsche and two police vehicles during the evening peak. Police had stopped the Porsche after it was recorded traveling at 149 km/h, and a second unit had arrived so the car could be impounded. The truck left the traffic lanes and struck the officers at roughly 100 km/h. All four died at the scene in the largest single-incident loss of life in Victoria Police history.

Truck driver Mohinder Singh pleaded guilty to four counts of culpable driving causing death and several drug-related offenses. The court accepted that extreme sleep deprivation and methamphetamine-induced psychosis caused his impairment. His original 22-year sentence was reduced on appeal in August 2022 to 18 years and six months, with a non-parole period of 14 years and six months. Porsche driver Richard Pusey was not charged over the deaths and did not cause the collision. He was separately convicted over his speeding, filming of the dying officers and drug possession.

Bizarre story. Cops pull over speeding Porsche doing about 140 klicks. Tests show he has drugs in system. Four cops present and another team arrive to haul Porsche off into the sunset when semi piles into them at 100 clicks. All this on emergency lane on side of hwy. truck driver blacks out and four skittled cops. Porsche boy racer takes pics of aftermath and hot foots it from scene. Truck driver in hospital and cops search his house where they discovered “certain things of interest”.
