The one who suffers from Blackhole Fever--a sort of psychosomatic rabies, that has him running off, and into the woods most of the time to try and strike bargains with the various astronomical goings on, and to sweat and laugh and hurl curse words at the assortment of night shapes he considers his companions. You got this bass-ackwards. As in completely, 100% wrong. If you are quoting from the Bible, at least get it right. God says that he "visits the sins of the fathers onto the children of those that hate me to the fourth generation." First, note it applies to "those that hate me." Second, the word "visits" means something like "observes." God is like Jordan Peterson, but with thousands of years of watching human behavior and outcomes. When generation 1 starts something foul, like murder or whatnot, it has a tendency to be passed down the chain from father to great-grandson and then everyone suffers. Look around the world. This is a basic observation. How many families go through the cycle of wealth? One man builds wealth, his children only maintain it, his grandchildren abuse it, his great-grandchildren lose it and die in poverty. Same in the political sphere. First man is a brutal dictator/warlord/drug lord, his great-grandchildren are up against the wall and shot in a Game of Thronesian debacle. Or even the girl in these pics. Her macabre death is a direct outcome of her father's bad life choices, and for all we know his father's and his father's going way back. The verse you cite is a warning to the first person to be moral and ethical, not a vengeful God delighting in smitething his descendants. And finally: "[Amaziah] did not put to death the children of the murderers, according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, where the Lord commanded, “Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death because of their fathers. But each one shall die for his own sin.” (2 Kings 14:6) The entire concept in Western law of not allowing for "corruption of blood" comes from this verse. |
