The culprit was arrested along with an accomplice.

The crime scene looks obviously staged to me:
look carefully, the dude was allegedly wearing a pair of tennis shoes (one of which is apparently missing)
BUT
on his right foot you can clearly see flip flops tan lines :



those won't appear by magic, one must wear a pair of Havaianas. For some time.

So:
The question is NOT what happened to his allegedly missing right tennis shoe, but "what happened to both his flip flops?"
