In some cultures, the dead live with, and are part of the family after death, until a funeral befitting the dead can be arranged. Often, people will have a dead relative "live" with them for months until they can afford to give the dead person a funeral they deserved based on their importance within the community in life. These are massive events, often with mass slaughtering of water buffalo and other large animals as a show of respect. Myself, I would hope my family cremates me and flushes me down the toilet.
