I lived in Montserrat on and off when I was managing my investments in the dr. I'm currently living in Saint-Martin. Love the French influence. Things here are way... better. No gringo price abuse. I feel safer driving in the streets and fewer police corruption. In Saint-Martin, I feel safe keeping my boat at the marina during my off season. In the dr, leaving a boat at a marina is a terrible choice. Rateros will have a field day at your expense. The marina workers are also in the deed. Lastly, the stupid expensive prices make no sense, no wonder all the marinas are loosing their assess due to the negligence of their people. Perhaps the marina's failure in the republic clarifies the image the country offers to tourist. Lastly, the vast difference between the well-connected and the less fortunate is growing. The dr constitution states that all beaches are public. However, you know that is not true. Rich do what ever they want. I have known many who lived in the Romana and moved out after a few years because they just could not handle the poverty and injustice that surrounded them. Long ago in the late 70s I remember On my very first visit to the Samana province, I was all starry eyed and in love with the country. Then I met a Cuban/Dominican who said to me, “cuídate amigo, you will love us until you will get to know us”. Since my first investment in 1983 till Now. I truly got to live and experience the good and the bad. You can really say I know them, and the love has been vaporized! Haiti is the most dangerous country in the western hemisphere.
