That animal should never see daylight again. Great post
Mar. 31, 2009. David Dobson had only one thing in common yesterday with the family of a Toronto teenager he raped and bludgeoned to death in 1982 -- a steadily growing pile of tear-sodden Kleenex.
During a day-long parole hearing that bordered on the surreal, Mr. Dobson and the family of Darlene Prioriello repeatedly broke down and sobbed as they battled over the 42-year-old killer's bid for freedom.
But any commonality ended there. Where Mr. Dobson offered apologies and an offer to "heal," Ms. Prioriello's family cursed him as the face of evil, and said they would rather see him dead.
"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry," Mr. Dobson warbled at one point, as the victim's mother, Helen Prioriello, was reading an emotionally searing victim-impact statement to the National Parole Board.
"Do you really think I'm buying your act?" the white-haired woman snapped, fixing a scathing glare on Mr. Dobson. "Don't! Don't!"
At the conclusion of the six-hour hearing, the parole board panel refused Mr. Dobson any form of parole or conditional release. "The most prominent among our reasons is that we don't really have a satisfactory understanding of the factors that led to this grave offence -- and we are not sure that you do either," the panel chairman, Robert Plain, told Mr. Dobson.
"Scum like him should not be allowed to live," Mrs. Prioriello told reporters moments later, adding that Mr. Dobson should have been executed for ending her 16-year-old daughter's life.
Mr. Dobson volunteered several explanations for the crime. He said he had been abusing drugs and alcohol, was depressed over his dysfunctional childhood, and had recently been rejected by a girlfriend. He also said that he associated Ms. Prioriello with that girlfriend, spinning him into a state of fury and uncontrollable lust.
"It is profoundly difficult for me to be here today," Mr. Dobson told the parole board. He said he spent the first portion of his 25 years in prison wallowing in contrition and unable to purge the memory of his crime. "There was a lot of self-punishment and turmoil; literally banging my head against the wall, trying to knock myself out," he said.
Then, several years ago, Mr. Dobson said a correctional officer told him "to stop living for Ms. Prioriello," and to start reclaiming his own life. "I do not believe that my life is to be left inside prison to expire," he said. "I believe that I have much more to offer the community."
In one of the most startling moments of the proceeding, Mr. Dobson told the board that he and some other spiritually inclined inmates created a symbolic memorial to those who suffered at their hands.
At this point, Mrs. Prioriello -- who, minutes earlier, had demanded that Mr. Dobson never refer to her daughter as "his" victim -- shuddered and half-turned away, mouth agape. Her daughter, Theresa Armour, jolted upright in her chair and recoiled, eyes wide.
In impact statements they delivered to the board, the two women said that losing Ms. Prioriello destroyed their family. They tearfully described how they constantly picture the agony of her last hours, being mutilated by a sexual sadist with a history of torturing small animals and tearing the wings off birds.
They made a 15 min film about this case with also shows his parole board review and more about who he was and how they met twice in the past. i upload that film to the OP.
He found god in jail, he says, and he also has an intimate relationship with another murderer in there.
