Possible. No idea. There's a weird little social media network that seems to largely be used by Latinas and people from a few countries in Europe. Part of the etiquette of the site seems to include writing incomprehensible text in their own language in bright or glittery fonts and plastering it all over their images. This girl was one of the worst with that habit that I've seen. I have probably another 40+ photos of her that are covered with the crap. In any event, it was Mexico, so gang affiliations or aspirations are always a possibility. Nonetheless, no cartel ties were ever drawn by the police to either her or her boyfriend. I have some pics of him, as well, and he really looks more like some sort of wigger backup artist for the Beastie Boys than your usual narco gun-thug. Sure, she's throwing some sort of half-assed signage and trying to look all 'tuff chica' in some of those pics, but not in the same way the cartel banger chicks usually do. And ultimately, they were on their way back from a movie or something when they got ambushed. Neither returned any fire and neither had a weapon. She pretty much just freaked out and ran away in terror. He pretty much did the same only he wound up in the hospital and she wound up dead and messy on the 6:00 news. Standing theory when it all came down was that the poor slobs had inadvertently wandered into some sort of protected gang territory on their way home and they paid for it. Still just a theory, but none of the articles I researched (which included several message boards involving their friends and family members) ever verified a cartel link between either of them. |
