Yeah, I can't blame him for turning tail and running. Kid was only a teenager and if he wasn't actually in 'the life' (or even if he was, to some degree), discretion is certainly the better part of valor. I think most guys I know probably would have run. On the other hand, it's a tough thing to swallow the day after. Sure, he was probably happy to be alive, but they were high school sweethearts. They'd been together for several years and had just gotten their first apartment together a month or so earlier. Based on everything I read on their social media pages, they were a popular and well-liked couple. They were really into each other and had been since they were young teens. Probably weighs heavy on the mind that he panicked and ran and left her behind. He wasn't even there with her when she died. He was crawling through the bushes while she was alone, terrified, and surrounded by armed men who she probably didn't even know and may not have even had any idea why she was being killed. I'm sure he hopes every day that she died quickly and painlessly. But the next time he saw her after running off was on the front of the Rojas section of the newspaper. Just lying there almost where he'd left her. Her hands are clenched. Her face is bloody. She's urinated all over herself, probably in terror from having been left alone and murdered. She's in a puddle of her own blood. And she's seen that way all over the evening news and the newspapers of every one who knew them. Nah, I don't blame him for running. But I damn sure bet he blamed himself for years to come.  |

 that news screen shot. they try to angle it so can't see her face on camera and instead wind up showing peepee puddle and huge stain on white pants. even worse embarrassment
