Crucifixion Studies/"Stiff"
I’ve just read an amazing book called "Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers" by Mary Roach and there’s an interesting chapter in it about several doctors who performed various crucifixion “studies” on cadavers. The first was Pierre Barbet in the 1930s. At the request of the church, he set out to prove that the Shroud of Turin was authentic by crucifying human corpses. One of his main focuses was to find the exact anatomical area of the wrist that the nails were driven through - conclusion was between the ulna and radius o/w it would have torn. Anyway folks, yous MUST get this book!!!!! It was such a great read, I couldn't put it down!!! Check out your local book stores or internet retailers ISBN-10: 0141007451 ISBN-13: 978-0141007458 |

Re: Crucifixion Studies/"Stiff"
I saw a documentary once about crucifixions and there to date has been no evidence found to prove they ever happend , Biblical myths. Everything man has done has left traces throughout time and history that backs the theory up , crucifixions ,no preserved cross's nor nailing devices have ever been found. |

Re: Crucifixion Studies/"Stiff"
Unfortunately, though, his results are incorrect! He hung the cadavers without securing their feet. If the feet are also nailed, it is entirely possible to drive the nails through the palms without them ripping out. I don't mean to sound like a smart-ass, but I've done a lot of reading about crucifixion. |

Re: Crucifixion Studies/"Stiff"
You are absolutely correct Shazza. Inspite of what our friends documentory may have told him Crucifixion was a realitivily common form of punisment for those who had lost favor with the Romans. Many, Many,Many people were Crucified before Jesus and many ,many after him as well. As far as no physical eveidence I think his source was wrong on that as well. While I mayself have not seen in person artifacts from Crucifixion, while in college we saw photos of such artifacts in Art history and World civ class. As for a means of dying, feet nialed feet not nailed either way you die , either way you suffer, either way same end result. As for it being a Myth it is not, the people of times past killed by it are not , nor is Jesus Great original reply by you Shazza Your a good kid |
