Re: Corpses On The Ganges

I would not want to catch any fish there.
I would bet you are likely to catch anything BUT fish there! Dysentery, the plague, dengue fever…shit, bugs, dead bodies….But no fish!!

Re: Corpses On The Ganges

Is the corpse in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th photo an example of postmortem fetal extrusion or is that a bloated sack

Re: Corpses On The Ganges

And THAT'S why I thought the movie "Eat, Pray, Love" was FOS!
A guy I used to work with went to India to support an airplane, and when he opened the tap in his hotel room, the water glass had
pieces of toilet paper floating in it.

Re: Corpses On The Ganges

Nice post!

That is gross stuff. I've seen pics/footage of this stuff elsewhere and it's horrifying to think they don't seem to care about it (or the supposed religious significance makes most of them overlook the grossness/biohazard factor).

Re: Corpses On The Ganges

I've been to india twice, backpacking around for 2-3 months by myself. I love India and the people are really nice..The 80% hindus are... not the 20% which are moo slims.I took a 5am river boat ride on the Ganges in Varnassi and you see people washing clothes in the river then 1 block down kids taking a shit in the water and another block ashes being pushed into river from cremations and hundreds of people washing themselves. It is a holy river to them..There are large turtles that scavage the river for the dead and eat them...I unfortunately did not see any bodies in whole form. If you have any problems with cleanliness do not go to India in any way other than a first class tour.I traveled for less than $5.00/day in 1998 including hotel, food and trans etc.It was not till about 6 years ago did one read about rape and murder in India, It has just started to become a problem and I never felt unsafe there.Yes the pollution is horrible but India is a bombardment of all your senses and an amazing place that I would love to see again. Pictures do not do it justice and you must go in person to appreciate its vast differences.

Re: Corpses On The Ganges

Venice is sterile by comparison but India a lot more interesting.
