It's not that bad over there. Of course, there are some places that are a bit more extreme than others (Aceh, Bogor), and areas that are a bit more primitive than others but it's not like there are people running around with spears everywhere. I spent a year there, mostly in Jakarta, but visited some of the rural areas - never had a problem.
