The real killer here was the fact that the car 'submarined' under the truck thereby defeating pretty well all the crumple zone protection. Here in the UK trucks are fitted with side bars and rear bars to reduce the chance of this happening.

ITS NOT A SMART CAR DUMBASSES. SMART CARS ARE VERY STRONG AND WOULDNT CRUSH LIKE THAT NOT TO MENTION THE CAR IN THE PIC HAS BACK SEATS..

Smart car or not, I dont think what ever type of car you are driving is gonna save you when that truck comes barreling towards you at 100k per hour

I don't think that is a Smart Car, either. I saw one test of a SC in Germany where they ran it into a concrete highway barrier at 90 mph, and after the accident they could still open the doors. I think that is on-line somewhere now as well. There are a lot of little foreign cars that resemble Smart Cars, but most of them are probably NOT as well engineered. People in developing countries don't worry too much about that stuff. I am constantly surprised at the number of car models that are built overseas, and we never even hear them mentioned in the U.S. We only see about 30% of the brands of cars that actually exist. I just found out that SKODA has 4 different models that they sell everywhere but in the U.S. They are nice-looking, too! |
