I still follow the news for this case every day, but things have gone pretty quiet since the governor was arrested last week. I doubt we'll hear much until the trial. There is a lot of speculation on fringe journalism sites in Cambodia that the governor's political opponents either staged this killing themselves and pinned it on him, or took advantage of the situation of her death to see him prosecuted, whichever. Not a lot of legs though and they're basically the Cambodian equivalents of tin foil hats.

I know it doesn't even bear thinking about - but there must have been some element of trust towards this man - she was sleeping with him after all. Just seems worse to me to be fucked over by someone you had been intimate with.

I agree wholeheartedly. Sorry, was mostly just taking the piss. And it does bear thinking about; discussing and thinking about the various aspects of these cases, including the emotional/psychological ones, is part of the reason we share them here! It still hasn't been (and may never be) determined whether he personally suffocated her or if it was the brother or if it was a third party. But there's certainly a good chance regardless that she knew who it was demanded that she die. :( |
