Re: Cambodia - Young Lady Commits Suicide with 20 Sleeping Pills
I share your scepticism. In terms of suicide methods, I think of sleeping tablets as merely an aid and work more reliably when combined with a vigorous lethal approach like carbon monoxide poisoning, or the 'helium bag' technique taught by euthanasia advocates. Normally you would amalgamate them with a strong alcoholic beverage so as to thin the blood, to calm the nerves so to speak. I heard sleeping tablets as well as light sedatives are also given to condemned inmates prior to facing the firing squad in Indonesia. However, I don't believe it's a very reliable means to an end when used on its own. The more likely scenario is copious amounts of vomiting followed by an emergency trip to the hospital to get your stomach pumped. My two cents on the situation: A lot of these third world pharmaceutical drugs sold in Cambodia are notorious for having a high opioid content. That can be very lethal. Unfortunately, no enforcement of pharmacy regulations and little consumer and drugstore personnel education contribute to a potentially harmful unregulated drug market. If travelling it's important to be extra vigilant when purchasing medication in these backwards Asian countries. They simply don't pass the stringent checks and guidelines like they would back home. Many such cases of abuse by Western tourists who have died are available on this website. If you desire a peaceful and painless death then Nembutal ingestion is the only way to go. I heard it has a bitter taste, so normally it's combined with something like a tea or coffee. It's used in Switzerland where assisted dying is legal. Terminally ill patients succumb very quickly and it's a sure-fire sleep you will never wake from. Some Latin American and south east Asian countries still sell it over the counter (i.e. Peru, Mexico, Thailand). But that could easily change. Nembutal is becoming increasingly more prohibited in many countries nowdays. The reason why is plenty obvious. |

Can say from personal experience during my dark years of several serious attempts... 20 tablets would do fuck all except for give you a solid sleep for a couple days max.

Re: Cambodia - Young Lady Commits Suicide with 20 Sleeping Pills
Depends on the sleep agent. I believe barbiturates which would probably be prescribed in that country would do the trick. 20 tabs of secobarbital or pentobarbital and you'd be dead pretty quickly. Sounds really fucking relaxing if you ask me. |
