Say with you will, but drunk or not, it appears that he did a great job performing a textbook partial suspension, without the telltale signs of suffering that others display most often. Tongue is not protruding, no bruising around the neck, no signs of thrashing or discomfort—so looks like this fellow might have avoided the anguish associated with suffocation, even though the "knot" is in the back, and as such, theoretically (and in practice), pressure will be applied to the windpipe. He probably passed out very quickly. Because the "knot" is light and riding high on the back or the neck, with only the partial weight of his torso bearing, I think he succeeded in avoiding much pain—or even any discomfort altogether. No. It is way more painful—unless it's done via a correctly implemented (measured rope length/strength, and according to body weight) classic long-drop, with subsequent neck vertebra/spinal separation, as intended. |
