Re: Bus Reverses Killing Six Year Old Girl
This was almost me, when I was in 6th grade. Had just gotten back to the school from a marching band competition, and because I was a percussionist, I had to help unload all the huge, heavy equipment from the back of the bus, up this wooden ramp on the side of the school building into the band room. As I was taking the last drum from the back of the school bus and walking up the ramp, I heard this "snap, crackle" sound behind me and saw all these wood bits flying in front of me. Out of instinct, I made a run for it up the ramp and heard these moms in the parking lot screaming. I had no idea what was going on, but when I got to the top of the ramp, I turned around and saw that the bus had reversed, demolished about 3/4s of the ramp (the ramp had been about 20-25 feet long), and had taken a huge chunk out of the side of the brick school building. The moms in the parking lot thought I was done for. Turns out the bus driver forgot to take the bus out of reverse before deciding to drive off.
