I had a good friend who had basically the same thing happen, he was not wearing his belt and was ejected into a field after hitting a tree. He was told by the paramedics there's no way the driver would have survived had they been restrained in the seat, he was in the hospital for 2 weeks but survived. I told him he was an idiot until I saw his vehicle, which had no drivers compartment left, he would have been absolutely mangled beyond recognition!!
