This happened in Russia earlier this year. The caption merely stated that this was a couple who, whilst on their way home from a funeral, was killed in a "collision with a bus".

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was this incident from February 2025 (the attached video showcases the scene):

A Scania bus was travelling from the Estonian capital of Tallinn, to the Russian city of Saint Petersburg, when it crashed into a KamAZ snow removal truck in Kingisepp.

A 60-year-old woman and her 61-year-old husband, who were sitting in the front of the bus, died instantly. Both drivers, as well as two other bus passengers, an 11-year-old boy and a 36-year-old man, were hospitalized in critical condition.

Photos are high quality, so decided to post them in the main pics section rather than autopsy.

wow. they really went to town cutting up these bodies for autopsy.

is it normal to destroy the face to remove the brain for an autopsy? seems a bit much, especially in a case like this where its not like there is a big question as to what killed em.

In the earlier photos of them lying on the tables she looks rather decapitated. I’d guess her face was already destroyed before they opened up her skull to check her brain.

In answer to your question though, no, they face remains intact during autopsy. The cut goes over the top rear of the skull from ear tip to ear tip then the skin is pulled down over the face and then backwards to expose the calvaria. Once that’s exposed the circular cut goes around the skull top about an inch over the eyebrows. Then using the prescribed tool, insert, a little twist of the wrist then pull it off and the brain is fully exposed.
