HOUSTON, Texas - Both directions of the Sam Houston Tollway at Wallisville Road were shut down Friday evening after a deadly crash in the midst of heavy storms.

Harris County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened just before 4:30 p.m.

Authorities are not sure how many vehicles were involved.

Two men died in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

The closure stretched from Highway 90 to Woodforest.

A former Texas governor once vetoed a bill to prohibit texting-while-driving saying that such a bill would be "micro managing" the state's citizen's behavior.

Once again, reading in the paper about someone being killed in a car accident today w/ the tagline of "seatbelts not in use at time." So sad. This woman I was friends with said she (and husband) doesn’t wear seatbelts bec her friends have died in vehicle accidents. From being hit by a drunk driver to dying in a crashed car, she’s lost many friends like that. And if it’s your time to go, it’ll happen. Also seat belts have killed people. Some bullshit like that.

I was like

I will never get into a vehicle you or your husband drive.
And she tried that shit when I’d give her rides, but our truck beeps very loud when it senses someone in the passenger seat hasn’t put on their belt. So she put it on.

My little sister was in a car crash and her bf didn’t wear his belt and broke his nose on the dashboard and had some other serious injuries. She was wearing her seat belt and had the seatbelt “rash” injury on her chest, but fuck, she’s alive. Rather have skin irritated than going to see her in the morgue.
