It is an every day struggle to not use for some addicts. I FEEL that drug replacement programs do NOT work for addicts. It just prolongs the agony. Behavioral therapy with support groups, solid support systems (family, friends), perhaps AA/NA sponsors with constant meetings) and strict abstinence from the drug of choice (or whatever) shall assist the addict/alcoholic maintain recovery.

I can attest that some programs (AA) will not co sign an addict or alcoholics bull shit. I believe in KEEPING MY SIDE OF THE STREET CLEAN. Perhaps that may help you not stress over the fact that the government has swooped in to change policy from doctors handing out scripts to everyone.

Finally, I am sorry that you are having to jump through hoops because of an addicted population. However, there must be action taken to stop the drain on health care resources.

Therefore, behavioral assistance that is billable to insurance and strict DEA guidelines are in place to keep people from dying and putting a strain on YOU.

I don't have any argument with any of what you say here. I have had discussions with addicts and AA folks. I don't trash such people because they have made poor judgements. Yes, the drain on health care resources is an real problem. Part of that drain comes from less than effective rehab programs, but we need to keep trying. Let's not go overboard, however, and deprive people for whom opioids are the best genuine source of pain relief. I have never said that addicts are depraved, morally corrupt, etc. Only that there is a moral element involved in self indulgent behavior that has social costs.

Yes, I can't blame you. The recent exchanges were water cooler material, but once such disputes get started in a thread it is hard to get the parties involved to transfer them over to the WC.

I will attempt to explain in a manner that is clear to you. Pompous: "having or exhibiting self importance, arrogant." These are attributes that, obviously, belong to persons. A person may exhibit these attributes in various ways, including the manner in which he/she expresses himself (via comments). However, the comments (views, statements) themselves either reflect the truth or they fail to do so; they are accurate or not as the case may be. They can never, intrinsically, be "pompous". Only the person uttering them can have this attribute. So what you meant to say is that I am pompous, not my comments per se. You are entitled to your opinion regarding my alleged pomposity. I would certainly never begrudge you this right.
I hope you find this clarification helpful. I want to help you express your insults properly.
