This is another one of those cases with a lengthy, complicated backstory. Apologies if it comes across as rambling.

On December 23rd 2018, in Manila, the Philippines, the body of a 23-year-old American woman, Tomi M.M., was found in the Pasig River. Her body was found duct-taped in a box.



Tomi grew up in a small town in Indiana, but moved to Lancaster, California, in 2018 to set up a cannabis dispensary. Her fatal entanglement began when she thought she was setting up a date, via Snapchat, with rapper Mac Miller. In reality, "Miller" was 21-year-old Troy Woody Jr, a member of the UGNazi hacker group (the name was an attempt at trolling - the group had no association with Nazism). The group specialized in doxing celebrities, swatting, and threats.

When they met, Woody claimed that he ran Mac Miller's Snapchat account, and that he was a government hacker. This, and his displays of wealth, intrigued Tomi, and they became partners.


Shortly afterwards, Woody's apartment was robbed, with an encrypted cryptowallet holding hundreds of thousands in bitcoin being among the possessions stolen. Paranoid, Woody took Tomi across the USA, until they went on vacation to Manila. At this point, Tomi's family noticed bruises on her neck, but she brushed off their concern. Tomi and Woody landed in Manila, where they were joined by UGNazis' founder, 24-year-old Mir Islam.


They rented an Airbnb, where Woody and Islam worked on a shady cryptocurrency startup. Tomi was sidelined, and she felt despondent. She clashed with the volatile Islam, broke Woody's laptop in frustration, begged friends for money to replace it, and cancelled their return flights. Her texts to family made clear her regret.

On 21st December, Tomi sent a message to her father - "hi dad...i am. sorry i was out walking around at the mall. i’m alive still." Two days later, she was dead from asphyxiation. She was duct-taped and stuffed in a box, before her body was dumped in the Pasig River. CCTV footage captured Woody and Islam loading the box into a taxi; a ride-hail driver tipped off police, leading to their arrests.



In custody, Woody and Islam turned on each other. Woody admitted to carrying the box with Islam, but that he didn't ask questions about the suspicious weight - he claimed Islam ambushed her.

Islam accused Woody of confessing to choking Tomi during sex. No physical evidence like strangulation marks was found, but Woody had fresh scratches on his arms. I couldn't find any details of the sentencing, but they remained incarcerated in Manila in 2024.



Despite being incarcerated, Woody, with the help of his parents in Virginia, continued his operations by bribing guards and smuggling in technology. In 2023, a confidential police report surfaced, stating that Woody and Islam planned to detonate C-4 explosives in Los Angeles.

It is not clear how far they got along with that plan, but further reports claim that several Los Angeles police officers are on their payroll to help carry out their plots. Woody believed that actor Enzo Zelocchi was involved in the 2018 raid on his house, and in 2022, deputies allegedly abused a fake warrant to pull Zelocchi's GPS data, before, a few months later, thugs broke into Zelocchi's house for his laptop.
