Both Spiffy and Kelseecat are of course right. She shouldn't live alone, she shouldn't mess around with waterpumps. She should be an innocent schoolgirl, maybe holding hand with a boyfriend, that's about it. But this is Latin America, and that is something else. I just stumbled into an article from Brazil about a 10 years old Paraguaian girl, raped and made pregnant by her stepfather, who (the girl, not the stepfather  ) cannot get an abortion. The last paragraph had some statistics, which put numbers on something often discussed here: 1.8% of all women in Brazil between 20 and 24 have given birth before they turned 15. Not as bad as Nicaragua, where it is 4.4%. They comfort themselves that Africa is even worse than Latin America, but anyway. It's worth to have these facts in mind, when we meet all these teens or even below acting as adults. It's reality, albeit an uncomfortable one - as most of what we see here btw.The main story itself isn't really relevant here, even if that is also reality. But if it interests you, a search on "10 years old pregnant Paraguay" will give you a nice selection of articles in english. If you want to discuss them, please take it elsewhere on the board, as it is not the topic of this thread. |

There is lots that doesn't add up with that story. Scumbags tend not to shoot 14yo girls over a waterpump, but they sure do shoot them if they make an advance and are rejected, especially if they are vulnerable and living alone. Unless it is confirmed by the original source the dispute was over a waterpump what seems far more likely he forced himself upon her and was shot for rejecting him. Perhaps he made an offer for payment in kind or something of that nature.
