Re: 14-Year-Old Girl Shot to Death by Her "boyfriend"
Perfectly legal and socially acceptable in Brazil. You say 'sick fucker' because whatever state you live in in the US changed it from 14 to 16 or 18 sometime in the last century. But 14 is not even remotely uncommon in many other countries, including Brazil. I read dozens of Brazilian newspapers and news blogs every day; 14 year olds dating or married to men twice their age isn't exactly frequent, but is perfectly normal there. Whether or not you think it is an ethical choice is your own personal morality (even if I happen to agree with you), governed by the state in which you live. Both the society and the governing bodies in the country where this took place find 14 acceptable, however, so your calling it 'sick' is pretty subjective. Unless, of course, you used that adjective in relation to him murdering her, in which case, feel free. |

From Wpedia.....The age of consent in Brazil is 14, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, with a judicial precedent showing that a close-in-age exception that allows those aged 12 and 13 to engage in sexual activity with partners who are 5 years older or less is legal, although not constitutionally formalized. |
