Airplane Hits Car During Landing at Northwest Regional Airport
An incident at Northwest Regional Airport, a car driven by Flower Mound residents Heather and Frank Laudo was struck by the landing gear of a descending aircraft. The Laudos, reportedly sustained minor injuries and were subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. The aircraft, a 2005 Cessna Skyhawk piloted by William Davis, also from Flower Mound, was making a southbound landing on the runway when the collision occurred. According to DPS spokesperson Lonny Haschel, the Laudos' vehicle was traveling on a perimeter road within the airport and inadvertently crossed the aircraft's path. The impact of the collision caused the aircraft's landing gear to shear off, forcing Davis to execute a crash landing on the runway. Remarkably, Davis, a student pilot returning from a solo flight, was unharmed in the incident. Heather Laudo recalled the harrowing moment as a series of glass shatters. The Laudos, known to be aviation enthusiasts, were en route to the Blue Hangar Cafe, located near the airport, at the time of the accident. Frank Laudo noted their familiarity with the airport's operations, emphasizing their regular visits to the site. In the aftermath of the crash, Frank Laudo managed to steer their vehicle off the road while Heather Laudo contacted emergency services. The Federal Aviation Administration has since taken charge of the investigation into the incident. |

Pretty good if you are at a shitheap airfield that doesn't seem to have any vehicle protocols.

Re: Airplane Hits Car During Landing at Northwest Regional Airport
I don't know what kind of vehicle protocols there would be, besides obvious ones. But I live in a city right now where the airport (smaller aircrafts) is located right next to busy roadways. Planes are always coming in or taking off and they are right there above us. But, then again...the planes clear 18 wheeler heights...so obviously the planes have protocols to follow, lol...Just thinking E-Loud about this. |

Re: Airplane Hits Car During Landing at Northwest Regional Airport
I actually read an article on this a couple months ago when it happened that was from the pilot's perspective. He was a student but this was his last flight and he's given up flying because of this incident. Also, there was a STOP sign that that Laudo's failed to stop at.
