Woman In Stolen Truck Gets Hit by A Train

Police tried to stop a vehicle with stolen plates. That's when police say 32-year-old Pamela Albright led them on a chase through La Crosse.

Police say Albright stole the truck from America's Best Value Inn on Rose Street in La Crosse on March 15. The chase ended with Albright driving up and over a curb, and down through a snow bank, at the foot of State Street near the bluffs.

The truck got stuck on the railroad tracks and Albright abandoned it. Officers tried to move the vehicle from the tracks, but were not able to before a train collided with the truck. No one was hurt in the accident. Albright was arrested at the scene.

Car chases are nothing new to the La Crosse Police Department, but the way this one ended makes it unique. "Well, obviously I don't know of any other cases where we've had quite the same circumstances.

We're involved in pursuits occasionally, but this one did have just a little bit more of a unusual ending," says Lieutenant Bob Berndt of the La Crosse Police Department.

It was an emotional cry for help in court from the woman accused of leading La Crosse police on a car chase that ended with a stolen truck being struck by a train.

"I just lost it because I haven't been able to call the police because of my warrant, and I just lost it your honor. I need some help," says 32-year-old Pamela Albright.

Albright faces multiple charges in connection with an early morning police chase, and a possibility of about 10 years in prison. Prosecuters say police spotted Albright in a stolen truck, and tried to pull her over before she led them on a chase through La Crosse.

Police say Albright eventually left the truck on train tracks, and tried to run away from officers before they arrested her. The truck was then struck by a train.

Albright is also wanted on a warrant in Illinois for four counts of theft. She's being held on a 10-thousand dollar cash bond.
