There were tense moments along Interstate 30 Tuesday afternoon as state troopers pursued a suspect. The chase started in Hunt County around Greenville. A Department of Public Safety officer tried to pull over a man in a Mustang for a traffic violation but he wouldn't stop. He fled west on I-30 and kept going on his rims even after hitting spike strips. At one point the car fishtailed and began to spin. A tire went flying, but troopers didn't take the man out. They followed him as he exited the interstate at Dalrock Road and headed north through Rowlett. Rowlett police ran interference as the chase moved through the city. They blocked off side streets, giving the man running for freedom an open road with troopers tailing. At Highway 66 he turned back east and on the Lake Ray Hubbard bridge troopers made a run at him. They used the pit maneuver to spin him again and then close in. The suspect was handcuffed after he was taken out of the car. He appeared to put up some resistance until a trooper put him in a collar hold to take control of the situation. The troopers are now trying to figure out why the man, who was identified as 23-year-old Timothy Barber, tried to run. He was charged with evading arrest and possession of marijuana. There were no injuries during the course of the chase.
