West New York Officer Fatally Shoots Armed Man After 911 Call
West New York police officers responded to a residence on 59th Street at about 6:30 p.m. on June 3, 2022, for a 911 call involving a domestic dispute. During the first encounter, Kevin Colindres, 32, fired a weapon at officers while standing in the vestibule of the home. One officer fired his weapon, and one officer sustained a non-fatal injury. Officers took cover and held the scene. About 15 minutes later, Colindres came out of a neighboring door and ran down the sidewalk while visibly armed with two firearms. An officer fired, fatally wounding him. Officers and emergency medical personnel gave first aid. Two firearms were recovered near Colindres, and another firearm was recovered on his person. He was pronounced dead at Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen at 7:13 p.m. A state grand jury later voted "no bill," meaning no criminal charges were filed against the officer.
