October 22, 2008 Police said Edward Voltz Jr., 51, arrived at a Lake Park towing firm around 4:30 a.m. that morning trying to gain access to a car.
He was told to leave. Shortly after 9 a.m. he returned and, after an argument, shot a female employee in the arm and the owner multiple times.
When police arrived they found him holding an assault rifle and a handgun.
After the man refused to put the guns down and pointed the assault rifle at the officer, the deputy shot the gunman.
The deputy was not injured.
Voltz was taken to St. Mary's Hospital where he is listed in critical condition but is expected to survive. Charges are pending against him.
One of the victims was shot in the hip area. She has been treated and released from St. Mary's Hospital.
The other victim was shot in the arm and was treated and released from St. Mary's Hospital.
The PBSO deputy involved in the shooting is currently assigned to the Lake Park, District 10 Substation.
He has been employed with the agency since October 2005.
He has been placed on Administrative Leave with pay which is standard procedure for all deputy involved shootings.
