Sheriff’s deputies in Houston repeatedly shot at a woman after mistaking her for an intruder inside her friend’s apartment, body camera footage released over the weekend shows.

The woman, Eboni Pouncy, was shot five times during the February 3 confrontation and her attorney, Ben Crump, called for the release of the two deputies’ body camera footage. Authorities say Pouncy was holding a gun when they opened fire.

Following the release of the edited footage by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday, Crump said in a release that the video is “evidence of the unnecessary and excessive force used against her.” “I’m traumatized. I’m heartbroken,” Pouncy told ABC News. “I feel stripped of my identity.”

It was a miracle Pouncy survived, Crump told CNN. “Over two dozen bullets (were fired) and she lived,” he said Tuesday. Pouncy was hit in the chest, abdomen, thigh, leg and foot, Crump said. She will be OK, but she requires physical rehabilitation, Crump said.

The use of deadly force by US sworn law enforcement officers is lawful when the officer reasonably believes the subject poses a significant threat of serious bodily injury or death to themselves or others.

These cops were told that there were recent break-ins, then found an apartment that was broken into. After knocking, and standing exposed outside large windows, they saw a person approaching their position carrying a gun. I expect that a review board will find that the shooting was lawful, but the cops are subject to department discipline for not engaging the unknown occupants from positions of reasonable cover, where they had opportunity to either take cover or pause the active investigation to request more resources.

In essence, by not taking cover, the cops created a situation where anybody answering the door carrying a gun, or an object mistaken for a gun, would pose a threat of serious bodily harm.

Well, they DID identify themselves as sheriff's office t least 30 seconds before lighting her up and yet she still came to the door with a "My, That's a Big One!" gun but I guess it didn't penetrate. Well, it did and it didn't. Dig?

Correct. Three areas of your head are affected when your're crying. Your eyes produce tears that flow down your face, your nose runs & it' s difficult to speak. This woman exhibited none of these conditions. Crump the exploiter coached her poorly.
