A Bari judge for preliminary investigations, Anna Perrelli, has upheld the detention of G.M. and A.V., two Bari residents aged 30 and 31, who were apprehended late Sunday night into early Monday after allegedly attacking and stabbing a 34-year-old taxi driver in an attempted robbery. Represented by their attorneys, both suspects exercised their right to remain silent during today’s judicial proceedings. They face charges of attempted robbery and assault, with aggravating factors including the victim’s limited ability to defend himself, the use of a weapon, and excessive brutality.

Based on the police report, officers arrested the suspects just hours after the attack. Investigators believe the duo entered the taxi on Sunday evening and, shortly after, launched a violent assault on the driver. Footage from the vehicle’s onboard camera provided crucial evidence in reconstructing the events. The taxi driver was stabbed nearly 20 times before G.M. and A.V. fled without managing to steal anything. The victim, who had only been on the job for a week, was rushed to Bari’s Policlinico Hospital, where he received 122 stitches for multiple injuries to his face, right arm, and back. He was discharged with a 25-day recovery prognosis.
