Ecuador. A 33-year-old app-based taxi driver, identified as Johnny René P. S, was shot in the head during the early hours of August 18. The gunshot, fired by one of the 5 criminals in the taxi, caused him to lose control of his gray Kia, which then crashed into a municipal construction trench managed by the water company.

Immediately after the crash, witnesses saw five criminals, three men and two women, hurriedly jump out of the vehicle and flee the scene on foot.

Police investigators suspect that the gang intercepted him to rob his vehicle or kidnap him. When he resisted, they shot him point-blank in the head.

The victim was a professional engineer. He only drove for a transport app at night to generate extra income for his family.

When specialized police units arrived, they found gunshot wounds on the victim and recovered a 9mm firearm inside the car.
