Re: SUV Plows into Store

A jewelry store is getting patched up after an SUV plowed through the front glass, narrowly missing an employee and customer.

It looked like a scene from a Hollywood movie, but it was real life and it happened at The Jewelers in Lebanon, Tennessee.

The shaken but unhurt worker, Veronica Mallicoat, was just inches away from being hit.

CCTV video shows her standing behind the counter helping the customer. Then, in the blink of an eye, the SUV plows through the glass beside her.

The vehicle came to rest in a back office, where store owner Shawn Smith usually works. He says he owes his life to the new puppy he had just adopted.

"He started barking, so I took him home," he said. "So I literally walked from my office maybe two minutes before."

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control and crash into the store, but it's believed he may have suffered a medical condition.

The vehicle took out several showcases, sending jewelry all over the store. Smith says there are no loose diamonds though, mostly silver pieces, watches and hundreds of tiny beads to pick up.

"It's all stuff," he said. "It's just really not that important."

The store's owner said although they estimate losses to be more than $100,000, they are thankful no one was hurt in the crash. They plan to be open for business on Friday.
