Edinburg, Texas, A 56-year-old woman who brandished a pellet gun asking for deputies to kill her in the Hidalgo County Jail lobby found herself in a cell.

Marisela Martinez Zamora was formally charged with terroristic threat after she showed an Airsoft-type pistol in the lobby at the Hidalgo County Jail.

Bond was set at $5,000 on the Class A misdemeanor charge.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra said that Martinez, 56, tapped the glass at the front desk of the jail with the gun, saying she’d just committed a robbery.

Martinez asked for deputies to kill her while waving the toy pellet gun and $93 that she said she had stolen, deputies said. Deputies subdued her with a stun gun and arrested her.

“She just kept asking them to kill her,” Sgt. Steve Cortez, who tased Zamora, said.

Martinez is under investigation for an aggravated robbery at Anzalduas Bail Bonds, 12409 Bail Bond Drive, Edinburg, where deputies said she had visited before the confrontation at the jail. Edinburg police is investigating that robbery.

Deputies in July 2014 began training to deploy so-called “less lethal” force during hostage situations and began carrying stun guns in November.
