Police are searching for a man that got shot when he tried to rob a South Knoxville convenience store last week.
At 11:05 p.m. on Dec. 20, officers were called to City Gas where employees reported a man came in, pointed a gun at a clerk’s face and attempted to get into a cash register.
As the suspect appeared from behind the lottery machine, the owner of the business shot at the suspect with his personal handgun.
The suspect and the business owner fired multiple times at each other as the suspect ran from the store. The suspect was hit at least one time.
KPD investigators followed a small blood trail to the spot where a vehicle had been parked, according to the release, and a witness described the vehicle as a silver Dodge Caravan with black rims and plastic on the back window held up by duct tape. No employees were injured during the robbery attempt.
Police described the robber as a black man, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and about 170 pounds, with a thin build.
He wore a black ski mask, a navy blue hooded sweatshirt with “A E 5” on the front, black and white sneakers, and faded blue jeans.
