New data released by Statistics South Africa shows that household crimes such as housebreaking, home robbery and theft of motor vehicles experienced in the twelve months preceding the interview increased compared to 2021/22. Crimes experienced by individuals have also increased, except for consumer fraud and hijacking of motor vehicles, which dropped in 2022/23.

South Africa is now a failed state. Among other things, it experiences approximately 74 murders and 100 rapes per day. South Africa's National Assembly passed legislation on Sept. 28 that would allow the government to seize land without paying the owners. About half of South Africa's population of about 60 million lives in poverty and receives at least one monthly welfare payout. About a third of the country's workforce is unemployed. It also suffers from a severe brain drain. Outward immigration to countries like the U.K., Australia and the United States means the country will collapse even more rapidly.
