Roy Alatorre Shoots Fellow Officer in Pasadena, September 7, 2025
Pasadena police Officer Roy Alatorre shot and wounded a fellow officer inside the department's parking structure at 240 Ramona Street in Pasadena, California, on September 7, 2025, Police Chief Gene Harris said. The wounded officer was struck in the shoulder and has since recovered. Harris said the standing officer briefly pointed a handgun at Alatorre, who was seated in a patrol car, before holstering it. Alatorre then drew his department-issued handgun, which fired through the windshield and struck his colleague. Harris described the conduct as unsafe, out-of-policy horseplay involving loaded firearms and said Alatorre had been fired. The wounded officer remained employed by the department. The department released its critical incident video on June 10, 2026. Dashboard-camera footage shows officers in the parking structure but does not show the discharge itself. As of June 2026, the criminal investigation and force review remained pending, and no criminal charge had been reported.
