South Whitehall Township police officer Jonathan Roselle fatally shot Joseph Santos, 44, at about 5:45 p.m. on July 28, 2018, on Hamilton Boulevard across from Dorney Park in Pennsylvania. Santos was unarmed.

The encounter began after a woman told Roselle that a man had tried to get into her car. Witnesses said Santos had been darting into traffic, jumping on cars and damaging vehicles in the 3700 block of Hamilton Boulevard. Santos climbed onto Roselle's police vehicle and pounded on its windshield and windows before turning back toward the officer. Roselle then fired, killing him.

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin charged Roselle with voluntary manslaughter on August 7, 2018. Martin said Roselle may have faced some danger but that deadly force was not justified. The defense argued that the shooting was reasonable because Santos had attacked vehicles, was covered in blood and appeared impervious to pain. A Lehigh County jury acquitted Roselle in March 2020 after about six hours of deliberation. Roselle later left the police department. In September 2021, the department's insurer agreed to pay $950,000 to settle a civil lawsuit brought by Santos's family.

I'm Italian born and look white and live just across the border. I haven't crossed the border in years and i never felt "RIGHT" in the states. Every time i come back to Canada it's like coming back to paradise as i know i would never get shot by the police among many other things.

A man was shot and killed by a Pennsylvania police officer while across the street from Dorney Park amusement park, officials said.

Video of the shooting was posted on Facebook by someone who was watching nearby.

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin told reporters that the man who was killed was interfering with traffic on Saturday, damaging cars on US Route 222.

"At least on one occasion he ripped a window out of a vehicle," according to Martin.

Police from South Whitehall Twp. responded to the scene where an officer “unfortunately” had to use his weapon and shot the man, Martin said.

In the Facebook video, the man is standing near the passenger side of the police SUV. At first he starts to walk away from the vehicle, only to turn and walk back towards the officer.

He is ordered to get down on the ground by the officer as he gets closer.

As the man continues to move toward the officer, five gun shots are fired and the man falls to the ground.

The man was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

It is unclear at this time if the man was armed at the time of the shooting.

The Pennsylvania State Police area now handling the investigation, along with the district attorney's office.

"It's very early in the investigation, the officers did respond for somebody in the area," said South Whitehall Township Police chief Glen Dorney. "They investigated, encountered, and the incident unfolded from there... We'll be speaking to everybody involved and looking for witnesses."

This is almost as bad as the incident in one of the Carolinas where the black guy is running away from the cop and the cop kills him...shooting him in the back several times. I know that cop is in Federal Prison and this guy should get the same. Fucking asshole!!!

You must be another one of Oswald's accounts. Only other person that would come on here and defend this

It's not a cops job to use 'lethal force' unless it's necessary. There are other ways to put a stop to the person/situation. Some cops aren't as brain dead.. You can clearly see that this guy is unarmed and they knew he was mentally unstable.
