Robber: Money or Life?

Time and Location: On a night in August 2013, around 10 PM, at a China Post self-service bank near the Panlong Market in Shuangta District, Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province.

Incident: Ms. Liu, dressed in a black dress, was withdrawing money at the ATM when a man, Li Zhishuang, wearing a baseball cap, approached from behind and held her at gunpoint. Li Zhishuang demanded 2,000 yuan in cash. (At the time, the exchange rate was approximately 324 USD.)
---------
Robber A: Don’t move.
Woman B: What do you want?
A: Don’t move!
B: So, just because you say "don’t move," I’m supposed to stand still?
A: Give me that money — 2,000 yuan (324 USD). Hurry up.
B: What are you talking about? My husband is a police officer.
A (pressing the gun to her head): You want the money, or do you want to keep your life?
B (pushing the gun away): I don’t care about my life — just shoot me.
A then shot her in the head and walked away, keeping his "promise" not to take the money or any other belongings.

Case follow-up

Victim's Condition: Despite being rescued, Ms. Liu survived but sustained a gunshot wound to the head and ultimately fell into a vegetative state.

Suspect's Surrender and Verdict: The day after the incident, Li Zhishuang turned himself in. On June 11, 2014, the Chaoyang Intermediate People's Court sentenced him to death, with a two-year reprieve and restrictions on sentence reduction.

Motive: Investigations revealed that Li Zhishuang came from a troubled family, had recently lost his job, and had broken up with his partner. He claimed the robbery was a spur-of-the-moment decision driven by alcohol and depression. However, police questioned his "impulsive" claim because he was carrying a realistic imitation gun.

He should have been sentenced to death with no reprieve.

He should have been sentenced to death with no reprieve.
"I researched and found that in China, a death sentence with a two-year reprieve means: it’s the final period before the death sentence is carried out, which means he will definitely be executed after two years."

Re: Robber: Money or Life?

Well I guess she asked for it so he gave it to her. Some people are too stupid to be alive. Case in point right here are in her face and he tells her it's her money or her life and she chose a ventilated cranium Play stupid games win permanent prizes

That part confused me too.

As a side-note: She probably thought the guy was carrying a fake gun. So, she thought she'd call his bluff. Apparently, he wasn't.

Your guess is likely correct. According to the information, China has had a nationwide gun ban since 1996. Possessing, manufacturing, or trafficking firearms carries a minimum sentence of three years and a maximum penalty of death. Therefore, the public’s fear of real guns is not as intense as the fear of homemade firearms made from two iron pipes
