The man killed by the Minnesota State Patrol on Monday morning died from "multiple gunshot wounds," the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office. Ricky Thomas Cobb II, 33, of Plymouth, died during an incident that happened in the early morning hours at Interstate 94 and 42nd Avenue N. in Minneapolis. He was pronounced dead at 2:35 a.m. "Manner of death classification is a statutory function of the medical examiner, as part of death certification for purposes of vital statistics and public health. Manner of death is not a legal determination of culpability or intent," the medical examiner wrote, after listing his manner of death as "homicide." A vigil was held for Cobb II on Monday evening, with family members telling KARE 11 he was a father-of-five. In a statement Monday afternoon, the Minnesota State Patrol claims a trooper initially tried to stop Cobb in a Ford Fusion for driving "with no tail lights" on I-94 near Lowry Avenue. "The trooper pulled the driver over. During the course of their investigation, troopers learned that the driver was wanted by law enforcement in Ramsey County in connection with a felony level violation," the department said, which has since been reported to have been a violation of a domestic order for protection. "As the troopers worked to detain the driver, the driver refused to exit the vehicle. Troopers were attempting to remove the driver from the vehicle when the driver drove away." The State Patrol said a trooper "discharged their firearm during the course of the incident," but has not explicitly said when that happened. A release provided Monday also doesn't say whether there was any risk of harm to the trooper, or if Cobb was armed. All three state troopers at the scene are on administrative leave. The troopers involved have not yet been identified. |

When you shift your car into Drive while two people are hanging inside, you just chose to do bodily harm to them. The driver's actions had to be immediately neutralized to prevent that harm and potential death to the other people. Lethal force was justified. I guess criminals are just too ignorant to have common sense. |

That was my attempt at a joke. But if the driver had any sense, he would have realized he was tempting death. All along, it was clear the driver had a reason to evade the cops. |
