On a cool, clear November night Officer Rex Bishop is on routine street patrol in the small
Alabama town of Loxley.
He has made several stops and issued garden variety citations; no d.u.i’ s until he clocks a small
Nissan pick-up truck at 70 miles per hour in a 55 mile an hour zone.
The driver takes a bit longer than normal to pull over once Officer Bishop ‘ lights him up’ which
sets off a small bell in the officer’ s mind. However, thinking the motorist was simply seeking a safe place
to pull over, Bishop gives it little thought.
Once stopped, the motorist exits the Nissan, and Bishop asks for his driver’ s license. However,
the motorist, later identified as Randall Pouncey of Mobile, Alabama, cannot find his license despite
much fumbling with his wallet. His two small sons are also in the Nissan, and finally one of them pokes
his head out the window and informs Pouncey that Pouncey’ s wife (for whatever reason) has the license.
So, Officer Bishop using Pouncey’ s social security number calls dispatch which subsequently
informs Bishop there are no ‘ wants’ or ‘ warrants’ out for Pouncey. Bishop transmits to dispatch in front
of Pouncey and the return information from the dispatcher also is broadcast in front of Pouncey. Bishop
later says that had there been any negative information on the subject, his dispatcher would have told him
to ‘ clear for traffic’ , and Officer Bishop would have moved to a location away from Pouncey.
In addition to Pouncey’ s fumbling, Officer Bishop has detected alcohol on Pouncey’ s breath.
Pouncey says he had nothing to drink--other than two or three beers earlier in the night.
Bishop makes the decision to give Pouncey an ‘ alco-sensor’ rest, and the test indicates that
Pouncey has a point-12 to point-13 blood alcohol content; legal limit in Alabama was point-10.
Officer Bishop decides to arrest Pouncey and goes back to his cruiser to request back-up, but in
the transmission only requests that back-up ‘ ease on over’ . His nearest back-up is Officer Lucian West
with the Robertsdale Police Department some six miles distant.
As Bishop reads Pouncey his implied consent rights, Pouncey obviously (in the camcorder tape)
begins to ‘ turn off’ Officer Bishop. Pouncey becomes very agitated and (paraphrasing) tells the officer
that if he’ s arrested he’ ll lose his job and he won’ t be able to pay support for his two sons. He reiterates
that several times, but Officer Bishop has already committed to the arrest.
Pouncey begins to walk away from Officer Bishop, and Bishop, surprised, grabs Pouncey by the
shirt collar. Pouncey and Bishop nose-to-nose now; Pouncey tells Officer Bishop not to touch his
“goddamned shirt” --- “don’ t touch me...” --- etcetera.
Bishop is just as immovable: “Mr. Pouncey, I’ m not going to let you go back to that car...” And,
suddenly, Pouncey throws a tremendous right hook at Officer Bishop’ s left jaw knocking the policeman
unconscious and on the ground.
Pouncey then leaps onto Officer Bishop’ s prone figure and inflicts a terrible beating (later
determined to be 33 blows). Bishop is unconscious for most of the beating as Pouncey is exclaiming: “ I
tried to tell you...I tried to tell you...I tried to tell you...”
Then, by a seeming miracle, a passing truck driver and his wife see this unfolding drama and stop
by to try to render aid. The truck driver has a large 5-D Mag Flashlight and proceeds to strike Pouncey
over the head as hard as he can using both hands. Pouncey stops beating Officer Bishop at this point and
rolls over to his left side. The truck driver’ s wife has taken control of Pouncey’ s two young sons who
have both leaped out of the truck begging their father to stop beating the officer.
Officer Bishop regains consciousness just as Pouncey rolls over to his left side and although
badly beaten and losing strength is somehow able to handcuff Pouncey and exclaim “ 10-17" (urgent call
for help) into his shoulder radio.
During the beating eyewitnesses will later testify that Pouncey furiously tried to wrest the
officer’ s gun from its holster, but apparently due to a double thumb safety lock was unable to get to the
weapon. Officer Bishop is spitting out blood and teeth and is obviously losing strength quickly as Officer
West arrives to try to take control of Pouncey. However, Pouncey is non-cooperative, and just as Officer
West reaches down to bring Pouncey up and off the ground, the handcuffs open. West is obliged to use
spray on Pouncey (actually Freeze Plus Plus) before he can, again, try to cuff Pouncey.
Still, though, as West is attempting to put on the same cuffs they give way and open--a second
time. Pouncey is contained, however, by the Freeze Plus Plus and finally Officer West uses a pair of his
own handcuffs to control Pouncey.
At first police thought Officer Bishop may not have applied the cuffs properly. But, on later trial,
they also would not hold in tests at the police department. The thinking was that when Officer Bishop
had fallen he had fallen on the cuffs and somehow damaged them and rendering them useless.


AFTERMATH
During the booking process Pouncey expressed concern that he may have broken his hand. When
Officer West retorted that he probably broke Officer Bishop’ s jaw, Pouncey exclaimed while laughing:
“Oh, he just fell...”
EPILOG

The subject Randall Pouncey was 41 years old at the time of the incident.

Unknown to Officer Bishop, Pouncey was an Alabama state bodybuilding champion.

He’ d won the title of ‘ Mr. Mobile’ two years.

Pouncey had previous criminal charges for domestic assault and distribution of steroids.

He reportedly had drunk a fifth of whiskey earlier that night and several beers.

No open containers of weapons were found in the vehicle.

It took exactly one year for the case to come to trial.

At the trial the jury, upon viewing the videotape, returned indictments for attempted murder.

Pouncey claimed he didn’ t mean to hurt Officer Bishop; that he just snapped.

This is by far the worst beating an officer has ever taken

That first punch that broke Officer Bishops jaw was bruuuuuuuuutal and unexpected

Again I had the complete dashcam video but it was lost in my computer switch

So this just shows most of the beating and his kids screaming at their dad to stop but leaves out the trucker who just like Pounceys first right hook a minute earlier, inflicts a brutal blow to his head with a huge mag light, it is an awesome sight and I wish I still had the full vid

The saddest part of the video (besides the officers injuries) are Pounceys children who scream at their Dad to stop over and over again. What a perfect role model for his children

Oh and "Mr Scumba...oh I mean "Mr. Mobile" Randall Pouncey died in an ATV accident years ago in which he suffered greatly

I just hope that a broken jaw was just one of the things this pile of shit felt before he expired

RANDALL DAVID (POUNCEY)

Former Union County Middle School student, Randall David (Pouncey) passed away March 14th in Hillsborough County, Florida, when he crashed during an all-terrain vehicle accident.
As a professional ATV racer, he ranked sixth in the nation two years ago in this competition class. David (Pouncey) was attempting a double-high jump and lost control of the four wheel 1989 Honda, and was thrown from the bike and suffered severe head injuries according to published reports in the Tampa Times.
Randy (Pouncey) had raced for 10 years. Memorial services were held in St. Petersburg at the First Baptist Church on March 18, 1995. Survivors from the Blairsville area include David and Janice Pouncey, David Pouncey, Jr., and Royce Futch.

Yea that was brutal. Saw this on TV a while back and have been looking for this vid. How much time did he get for this? Never knew the guy was a bodybuilder.
