RAF Tornado Strike on an ISIL Armed Pick-up Truck in Iraq

Britain began air strikes against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil) by destroying a militant heavy weapon position and one of their armed vehicles, the Ministry of Defence said.

A pair of RAF Tornados flying from Akrotiri in Cyprus attacked the targets while providing air support for Kurdish troops battling the extremists.

The strikes mean that Britain has joined the front line of an American-led coalition in support of Iraqi and Kurdish forces trying to beat back the extremist movement that has seized swathes of Syria and Iraq.

It is believed that the British air strikes were part of the battle for Rabia, which is a key supply route for Isil between its “headquarters” in Syria and its forces in Iraq.

Large amounts of US equipment seized from the Iraqi army during Isil’s push across Iraq in June were taken to Syria across this border.

The MoD said the Tornados first dropped one Paveway IV guided bomb on a “heavy weapon position which was engaging Kurdish ground forces” in north-western Iraq.

The two Tornados of II Squadron, usually based at RAF Marham, then spotted an armed pick-up truck and struck it with a Brimstone missile.

Both jets returned safely to Akrotiri and Michael Fallon, the Defence Secretary, said their attacks appeared to have been successful.

Mr Fallon said that halting the advance of Isil, also known as Isis, would be “a huge task and is going to be a long campaign”.

Re: RAF Tornado Strike on an ISIL Armed Pick-up Truck in Iraq

that was an armed vehicle?? looked like a regular pick up to me....

suppose the RAF need to put out a couple of these videos right now to help justify their being there.....the UK government would even go so far as to set these videos up so they've got something positive to show the taxpayers back home....

having said that i hope we see more videos of the dirty islamic goat fuckers getting destroyed...every one dead is one less problem in the world and i'm frankly sick of hearing about islam, sick of reading about it and don't want to see any more videos of them beheading people

Re: RAF Tornado Strike on an ISIL Armed Pick-up Truck in Iraq

i just finished reading a book called 'the real heroes of telemark'

the uk, during the 2nd world war trained norwegian men who then landed in occupied norway, lived off the land during winter for a few months and then about 8 of them attacked a hydro plant where heavy water was being produced. They destroyed all the stocks of heavy water and all the equipment that was used to make it....

unfortunately hitler put extra resources into getting the production up again and the plant was being repaired so the americans decided, without letting the norwegian king in exile or politicians know, that they would bomb the place. The production was done in a cellar, under 7 storeys of concrete building. So typically they bombed the crap out of the place using something like 500 1000lb bombs and 700 500lb bombs.....

13 of the bombs actually hit the target, the surrounding area was devastated, many locals were killed and their houses destroyed and they even managed to kill one norwegian guy who was alone in the countryside, 13km away from the target.... the bombs didn't destroy the heavy water OR stp the production of it so the brits sent 8 of the same original norwegians back to finish the job off properly which they did by sinking a boat that it was being transported out of norway and back to germany on.....

.....and they still prefer bombing from the air these days....
