On July 25, 2022, Portia Odufuwa fired a handgun inside the Southwest Airlines ticketing hall at Dallas Love Field in Dallas. She fired into the ceiling, pointed the weapon at a bystander and a responding Dallas police officer, and fired in the officer's direction. The officer shot Odufuwa in the leg, ending the incident. She survived, and no one else was injured.

Odufuwa was charged in Dallas County state court with aggravated assault on a public servant. At a bench trial on August 14, 2023, a judge found her not guilty by reason of insanity. The court found that she had placed the officer in imminent danger but was insane at the time. She was committed to the maximum-security unit at North Texas State Hospital in Vernon for a mental-condition examination, with continued court monitoring of her treatment and medication.
